2025 - 2026

Wistow World Book Day

Wistow’s World Book Day was a fantastic celebration, with children arriving dressed as a wonderful array of characters. Many of the costumes were beautifully homemade, showing just how much time, care and creativity had gone into them. One of the best moments of the day is always that first excitement of arriving at school, spotting friends in their outfits, and chatting eagerly about who everyone has come as. As part of the celebrations, each class worked together to decorate their classroom door, bringing stories to life in bright and imaginative ways. We then took part in a whole-school handwriting competition, and it was brilliant to see how our new handwriting programme is already making a real difference—the improvements were clear in every child’s work. In the afternoon, Miss Trunchbull’s World Book Day Quiz brought plenty of fun and laughter, with children (and staff!) getting involved in lots of different ways. It was a truly enjoyable day for everyone. A huge thank you to all parents, children and staff for the effort and enthusiasm that made it such a memorable celebration.

Yorkshire Rotters

The Yorkshire Rotters visited Wistow School to teach the children about recycling and the importance of looking after our world. They led engaging, hands‑on sessions on composting, creating wormeries, and making delicious fruit smoothies using a special smoothie bike. All the children had a fantastic time and were thrilled to take home their very own wormery to continue composting at home.

A huge thank‑you to the Yorkshire Rotters, who were wonderful with the children and delivered important messages in a fun and memorable way.

Children's Mental Health Week

Children’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Week was filled with super fun activities that encouraged positivity, reflection and kindness across the school. Alongside fundraising to support new wellbeing resources, the week was buzzing with energy—from a lively bake sale to beautiful bracelets handcrafted and sold by our Wellbeing Ambassadors. We also enjoyed a fantastic range of games and activities, including musical statues, dancing, chalk drawing, singing, and Ambassador‑led playground games, all of which were incredibly well attended and thoroughly enjoyed by the children.

We were especially grateful to the pupils who went the extra mile at home, baking more treats and creating additional bracelets and crafts to support the cause—your efforts made a huge difference. Miss Jackson and her team, together with the Wellbeing Ambassadors, did a brilliant job of helping staff and children feel positive, valued and uplifted throughout the week. A huge thank you to all our families who donated baked goods and ensured everything was allergy‑appropriate so that all children (and staff!) could be included. It was a wonderful celebration of wellbeing, community spirit and care for one another.

A Special Visit!

A huge thank you to Annie and Hannah from North Yorkshire police who came into school today. They took time out of their day to talk to classes in school around various themes.

They told us about their job as police officers, how they keep us safe and let us see the flashing lights and hear the siren on their van! It was very loud ... but the children enjoyed it!

Number and Book Day

Children across the school enjoyed a wonderful day of learning maths through stories on January 29th. Using engaging books such as The Lion’s Share, 365 Penguins, How Many Legs?, Escape from Pompeii, Zog, and Handa’s Hen, pupils explored mathematical ideas in creative and meaningful ways. The stories inspired a range of hands‑on activities, encouraging problem‑solving, reasoning, counting and measuring. The children produced some fantastic work and had great fun learning through these imaginative and inspiring texts.

Young Voices 2026 - Let's Hit Those High Notes!

What an absolutely amazing evening at Sheffield Arena for the Young Voices concert! Our Wistow Songbirds shone brightly from start to finish. They were true stars—listening carefully, showing impeccable manners, and most importantly, singing their hearts out with passion and pride. From the high‑energy Disco Medley that had everyone dancing in their seats, to the beautiful harmonies of favourites from Wicked, the children sang with joy, confidence, and incredible teamwork.

A huge thank you to the dedicated staff who make this unforgettable event possible each year—we truly couldn’t do it without your hard work and commitment!

Forest School Fun

Despite the wind, rain, and plenty of mud in the Peace Garden, the children of Wistow threw themselves into Forest School Week with amazing enthusiasm. Suited and booted, they arrived ready to embrace every challenge the outdoors had to offer. Throughout the week they crafted catapults, built settlements, shaped swords and crosses, and experimented with a wide range of tools, knots, and woodland skills. Their resilience, creativity, and teamwork shone through in every activity. Well done to all the children for an incredible week of outdoor learning!

Beauty and The Beast - A FOWSA Treat

A very special and well deserved treat was on the agenda for our children today, with a huge thanks to FOWSA for making it happen!

We took a little walk to Jubilee Hall, where we watched a wonderful performance of Beauty and the Beast by M and M Productions. There was lots of audience participation and even Miss Jackson and Miss Bellerby became part of the show. The actors gave high praise for the children, who were a wonderful and very well behaved audience.

Thank you FOWSA - Wistow School, it was brilliant!

Wistow Christmas Light Trail

One of the many highlights of this term was our magical Christmas Light Trail! Our Worship Leaders worked brilliantly to design and sell maps both in school and around the village, guiding visitors to the festive displays. We are so grateful to the kind families of Wistow who signed up to share their beautiful Christmas lights, turning the village into a sparkling wonderland.

As darkness fell, Wistow came to life with excited visitors exploring the trail and enjoying the festive atmosphere. A huge thank you to all of our families and community, who contributed to making this event so special.

Thank you also to Mrs Griffiths and the Worship Leaders - you all did such an amazing job!

Strictly Dance Club Christmas Special

Parents were invited to a special dance performance by our Strictly Dance Club, featuring an amazing routine to Feliz Navidad. The children all took to the floor and proudly demonstrated what they have learned so far. It was a fantastic event, enjoyed by everyone, and it certainly got us into the Christmas spirit!

Thank you to Rachael Wilson for all her hard work with the children over the Autumn term. If your child is interested, this club runs on Fridays after school. Next term, they will be planning and rehearsing for Music in the Night in the summer—something to really look forward to!

Hey Ewe!

What an incredible performance by our wonderful pupils! Selby Class and Fountains Class truly brought the story of the first Christmas to life with joy, humour, and enthusiasm. From the lively sheep to the heartfelt singing, every child shone on stage and made us all proud.

The teaching teams in both classes worked incredibly hard to ensure that everyone was prepared for such a memorable production. Their dedication ensured that every child had the chance to sparkle and enjoy this special experience. So thank you to Miss Bellerby, Mrs Nicholson, Miss Liptrot, Mrs James and Mrs Brearley; it really was a super nativity. Thank you to all other staff, who were behind the scenes, painting, costumes and putting up and down the stage ... again ... and again ... and again!

It was a fantastic way to celebrate the season together – well done everyone!

Wistow Go Wild!

We had an unforgettable day when Nick from Project Wild visited Wistow Primary, bringing along some truly fascinating creatures for the children to meet. Across the day, every class had the chance to get up close with a python named Milkshake, Charlie the tarantula, a stick insect, and even a scorpion! The children were absolutely captivated, learning all sorts of exciting facts about these amazing animals.

It was especially lovely to see so many children overcoming their fears and showing such bravery—many couldn’t wait to share what they’d learned and how proud they were of themselves. The sessions were a perfect mix of education and adventure, and the excitement was buzzing throughout the school. A huge thank you to Mrs Griffiths for organising the visit, and to Nick for introducing us to his incredible animal friends and inspiring so much curiosity and confidence in our learners.

Happy Harvest!

What an amazing job Bolton class did in leading us in our Harvest service. They explained why we celebrate Harvest and sang some fantastic songs that the church audience all enjoyed. The Enormous Turnip was a particular favourite, with the small mouse saving the day! But it delivered a clear message of how working together can make things happen.

Thank you to all of you who donated food for the Selby Foodbank. They were overwhelmed by your generosity and the overall weight of our donations was 214kg - AMAZING!!!! It was lovely to have Faith from the Selby Foodbank to come and join us, who spoke about the work the foodbank does, supporting local people and helping them when they need it. She said that by the following week, all our food will have been handed out in food parcels. So thank you all once again for your support.

Wistow Go Back To The Future

What a great weekend we had for the Wistow Scarecrow Festival! School's entry, of Marti McFly, Doc and the Delorean car from Back to the Future III looked great at the front of school, despite the rain trying to play sabotage on Friday afternoon.

We managed to get the scarecrows all set up and feedback from the public and children was positive. It is always lovely to have the community come together in events like this and if you came and took part in the trail, we hope you enjoyed the day.
