Equality, Diversity & Accessibility
Wistow Parochial CE Primary School welcomes our duties under the Equality Act 2010, and in our responsibilities in regard to the Public Sector Equality Duty – to eliminate discrimination, advance equality of opportunity and to foster good relations for all. We are also fully committed to meeting our responsibilities in regards to promoting British Values, and other similar equality initiatives and meet the expectations of the Special Educational Needs Code of practise 2014.
Equality Objectives
At the Wistow School, we are committed to ensuring equality of education and opportunity for all pupils, staff, parents and carers, irrespective of age, race, gender, disability, belief, religion, relationship, or socio-economic background.
Our equality objectives are based on the principles of human rights and human dignity, and can be summarised as follows:
- To ensure that the school retains a culture of advancing equality both in its policies and its practices
- To develop the children’s understanding of, and commitment to, the promotion of equality and the elimination of discriminatory practices and beliefs
- To deepen an understanding among all children and staff of the strengths and needs of all protected characteristic groups
- To continue to seek ways in which the culture, policies and practices within school can be further improved to advance equality and to eliminate discrimination
- To celebrate the rich variety of individual and group characteristics which constitute our school community, as well as the wider world.
In order to further support pupils, raise standards and ensure inclusive teaching, we
have set the following objectives:
- To monitor and analyse pupil achievement by race, gender and disability and act on any trends or patterns in the data that require additional support for pupils.
- To raise levels of attainment in core subjects for vulnerable learners.
- To review levels of parental and pupil engagement in learning and school life, across all activities to ensure equity and fairness in access and engagement.
- Narrow the gaps in attainment in all areas of learning between SEND and non - SEND pupils
- To increase understanding between different religious groups by gaining a deeper understanding of diverse religions
- All staff to have a greater understanding of the needs of children with mental health and wellbeing issues.
