Our Church and Our Community

At Wistow Parochial C of E Primary School, we work in partnership with our local churches, All Saints and Wistow Methodist Chapel, as well as other local groups in and around Wistow.

We spend a lot of time in church at special events over the Christian calendar from harvest festival to nativity celebrations. You can see some of the events we have taken part in the photos below.

We also like to spend time in church and around our community to learn and grow as people.

Christingle Service

The children learnt about the Christingle and the Children's society when Mrs Williams, one of our school governors, came in and showed them how the Christingle is made. Byland Class then set to work and made Christingles for the service at All Saints. The children raised lots of money to help the Children's Society and the service was very special for all who attended.

The Christmas Nativity

Christmas is such a special time of year and at Wistow, the children and staff enjoyed the preparations to re-creating the nativity story. This year the children performed 'Humph' which was the story of one of the camels who travelled with the wise men to visit the new born baby king, Jesus.

Parents, governors, friends of Wistow School and children from local nurseries came to watch our nativity and we then performed a nativity as part of our carol concert at church.

Our School Harvest Festival

Each year we have our Harvest Festival, to celebrate the wonderful gift of food, water and life. We give thanks not just to God, but to the farmers who plant and help the crops grow, the people who harvest the food and also others who make sure we have the food to eat each and every day.

School Council decided, after asking their fellow classmates, to donate this year's food donations to Selby Foodbank. What a fantastic amount we received from our generous families.

The service of thanks took place at All Saints Church and it was so wonderful to have so many people come and share in our celebration. Each class took it in turns to share something about Harvest that they had been learning and there were some superb bible readings read by students.

Thank you all again for your kindness and generosity.
