Topic
This week we are moving onto animals from around the world. Each day we will focus on a different continent.
ELG
Speaking: Children express themselves effectively, showing awareness of listeners’ needs. They use past, present and future forms accurately when talking about events that have happened or are to happen in the future. They develop their own narratives and explanations by connecting ideas or events.
Self-confidence and self-awareness: Children are confident to try new activities, and to say why they like some activities more than others. They are confident to speak in a familiar group, will talk about their ideas, and will choose the resources they need for their chosen activities. They say when they do or don’t need help.
Reading: Children read and understand simple sentences. They use phonic knowledge to decode regular words and read them aloud accurately. They also read some common irregular words. They demonstrate an understanding when talking with others about what they have read.
Writing: Children use their phonic knowledge to write words in ways which match their spoken sounds. They also write some irregular common words. They write simple sentences which can be read by themselves and others. Some words are spelt correctly and others are phonetically plausible.
The world: Children know about similarities and differences in relation to places, objects, materials and living things. They talk about the features of their own immediate environment and how environments might vary from one to another. They make observations of animals and plants and explain why some things occur, and talk about changes.
Focused Task
We are thinking about all the different types of animals we would find in the zoo. I have attached a lovely story all about going to the zoo and seeing the animals.
The task is going to be a rolling task across the week. I would like each child to create a fact file. This is going to be a booklet, leaflet or posters (any way your child would like) all about 5 different animals from around the world, so one each day. I have attached a template but feel free to create your own. For each animal I would like their name, a picture, height, weight and 3 facts (this could include what they eat, their habitat and a silly fact). When creating these make sure you show your child what country the animal is from. I will put a link to google earth, the children enjoy being able to look around the world.
Today we are starting with NORTH/SOUTH AMERICA I will attached a list of animals you could potentially start your child's fact file.
