Number: Children count reliably with numbers from 1 to 20, place them in order and say which number is one more or one less than a given number. Using quantities and objects, they add and subtract two single-digit numbers and count on or back to find the answer. They solve problems, including doubling, halving and sharing.

This week’s focus will be counting in 5’s.

Starter: telling the time. Can your child sing the two rhymes we learnt about telling the time? ‘when the big hand is at the top… it’s something o’clock.’ ‘when the big hands at the bottom its half past’.

Can they make o’clock’s? if you haven’t got a clock could your child show you where the hands would go. You could google a picture of a clock face.

Main Activity: counting in 5’s. This is a completely new concept. So to start I have attached a song that the children can follow along. I would play this along a few times to see if your child can begin to join in. Then I would like you to go onto the splat 100 board – the link is below – and splat out the numbers in the 5 times table up to 50. Discuss with your child the pattern that they can see and why we don’t always just count up in 1’s, it’s quicker when looking at larger numbers.

Remember any work needs to go into their green work home books and on tapestry please.
