Number: Children count reliably with numbers from 1 to 20, place them in order and say which number is one more or one less than a given number. Using quantities and objects, they add and subtract two single-digit numbers and count on or back to find the answer. They solve problems, including doubling, halving and sharing.
This week’s focus will be counting in 5’s.
Starter: Money – what coins can your child remember. Hold some up or play a game can your child remember the value?
Main Activity: counting in 5’s today we are going to work out how to count in 5s when there are a lot of objects. It helps to group in 5 because it is a faster way of counting. So get as many lego bricks as you can try to go over 20 to challenge but if not just stick with 20. Ask your child to make piles of 5 until they are all separated and then count up in 5s to see how many they have. You can add in a challenge of estimating before they count them out.
Then to finish off with a counting in 5 songs.
Remember any work needs to go into their green work home books and on tapestry please.
