ELG Numbers: Children count reliably with numbers from 1 to 20, place them in order and say which number is one more or one less than a given number. Using quantities and objects, they add and subtract two single-digit numbers and count on or back to find the answer. They solve problems, including doubling, halving and sharing.
This week’s focus will be all around doubling and halving.
Starter: ask your child if they can sing you the days of the week song and months of the year song? Make sure they get them all in the right order.
Main Activity: today we are moving onto halving an amount. The children should be familiar with language such as groups, altogether, part. In school we have focused on the part part whole model but have not looked at halving equally. Can the children half an amount? Start basic asking the child what is the half of 2? Remind them yesterday they learnt that when you are halving it must be into two equal groups. Work your way up through the numbers all the way to 20. In order to do this use objects within your home.
Remember any work needs to go into their green work home books and on tapestry please.
