Eco Warriors

ECO-WARRIORS

Our world, community and school are all important to us and the whole school as Eco-Warriors are on a mission to make sure that we keep the environment around us clean and tidy, safe and secure. We also ensure that as a school we are energy efficient, by turning lights off, making sure water is not wasted and that we don't waste resources, especially paper.

We also love animals and realise the important part they play in the world in which we live in.

Every little helps and we endeavour to do all we can to make Wistow School an environmentally friendly and economical place to be.

We Are Your 2024 - 2025 Eco-Warriors

We kick started our new academic year with a meeting to design our new group badge. Whilst we were doing this, we talked about charities this year we would like to support. All groups are going to come together and then decide who we can help and how.

We also had time for a quick litter pick at the front of school, with partners, we made sure our school was looking tidy and as smart as can be.

We can't wait to get started on making a difference together this year ... watch this space!

Special Stones

As part of our afternoon group session, the children took time to begin painting their stones. They were given the brief 'what school means to me' and then were given time to plan a design on a their stone. They painted the base colour today and over the next few weeks, we will be adding to them with the next part of the designs.

During the painting session, the children talked about charity, something Mrs Cox had asked all the groups about. As we will be starting a new academic year in a few months and we are exploring charities that mean a lot to us and will decide as a whole school, who we support and how we can help them together.

Creating A New Space

Eco-Warriors worked superbly as a team and non-stop, as they worked on creating a new space just outside the office entrance this afternoon. They listened to the instructions and then supported each other in creating a special space that visitors will see as they come to the main entrance. It was a hub of activity and the children's faces were delighted as they saw their hard work coming into fruition. They were incredibly pleased with the space and there is more work yet to come, which will make it even more special. Watch this space!

Looking After Our School

Time for a Spring clean after the Christmas break! Some of our Eco Warriors took it upon themselves to do a litter pick around school to make sure it was looking its best at the start of a new term.

They worked together as a team and did a great job. Thank you!

World Water Day

To celebrate World Water Day, the Eco Warriors informed the whole school about the great work Water Aid do to save lives around the world.

Planning for World Water Day

This week we had our latest meeting.

We talked about World Water Day on the 22nd March and are starting to come up with ideas to celebrate the day.

If you have any ideas, please let your Eco Warriors know!

We are also helping around school by doing the paper and card recycling daily.

Our new posters

Eco Warriors have had their first meeting of the year to discuss the issues they want to focus on this half term. We decided energy saving and water was a good place to start and are going to be encouraging the school community to switch off lights when rooms are not in use and monitor taps and the water fountain in school. We have designed posters to display around school about our Eco Warriors aims.

Spring Clean Up!

Our Eco Warriors were out in force this morning to begin a spring clean around school. They worked hard as a team as there was lots to be done due to the high winds we have seen over the last few days. Piles of twigs and branches were collected making the school look super tidy.

We are going to reuse the twigs collected as part of a hibernation project in Selby class next week, so we are recycling all the natural resources.

Well done Eco Warriors!

Tidy Up After Storm Arwen

Our Eco Warriors have stepped into action after a visit from Storm Arwen this weekend. Leaves, twigs and litter were blown down and into school grounds so they wanted to do a tidy up mission. Armed with gloves, rakes, litter pickers and brushes they did a great job cleaning up an area at the front of school. They worked so well as a team! Thank you Eco Warriors!

Helping Wistow's Wildlife

After seeing the advert for the Big Garden Bird Watch, the school decided to launch a project to make our own bird feeders. As always, the children of Wistow School and their families set to work. The bird feeders are now all hung around our school and as Eco-Warriors, we need to ensure that they are stocked up with food for the creatures. We are all having great fun spotting the different types of animals in and around our school.

Take a look in our school gallery for all the bird feeder designs, they are all so unique! But here are just a few and their creators:

KEEPING SCHOOL TIDY!

As a team, the Eco-Warriors worked relentlessly to clean up the masses of leaves that had fallen from our giant ash tree. Well done team!
