ELG Numbers: Children count reliably with numbers from 1 to 20, place them in order and say which number is one more or one less than a given number. Using quantities and objects, they add and subtract two single-digit numbers and count on or back to find the answer. They solve problems, including doubling, halving and sharing.

This week’s focus will be on estimating and comparing quantities.

Starter: counting up and back down from 0 to 20.

Main Activity: estimation station. Children guess how many things are in a jar, then count to find out. Children could record their guesses on post-its and then discuss which estimates were the closest. If you haven’t got a jar you could use a plastic tub. Children enjoy the bigger numbers but they may need help to count it out. You can also challenge them by using a big container with small objects or a small container with big objects. Can your child spot that it is the not about how full the jar is but the size of the object.

Remember any work needs to go into their green work home books and on tapestry please.
