Shape, space and measures: Children use everyday language to talk about size, weight, capacity, position, distance, time and money to compare quantities and objects and to solve problems. They recognise, create and describe patterns. They explore characteristics of everyday objects and shapes and use mathematical language to describe them.

This week’s focus will be money.

Starter: Coin recognition game. This can be done with coins you have at home or I have attached an online game.

Main Activity: this week we will be using money to work on our addition and subtraction. Today I would like the children to focus on how much. I have attached a sheet that is ‘how much is in the piggy bank?’, you could also draw out your own. It ranges in amount so please decide which would be best for your child. You can start of simple with 1p’s and work up to including coins worth a higher value. Please don’t move onto ‘how many ways can you make …’ this is for another day.

Remember any work needs to go into their green work home books and on tapestry please.
